Apparently a very well received hiking boot by Lowa. The following are the customer reviews, do look and read through the varying opinions. Note that this hiking boots is one of the best sellers around, at least on Amazon. Carefully made in Slovakia, that is.

These are really handsome shoes, they fit well (snuggly tight to the entire foot), and are very comfortable. I bought them just prior to a big adventure trek vacation in Costa Rica, and they were the only shoes I used during that trip. They got a huge test of a workout, in lots of rain, street walking, and hiking in very challenging weather and terrain conditions that included hiking on muddy and rocky mountains horseback riding, and crossing a bunch of shallow rocky streams. I think these shoes must be waterproof because my socks never got wet. They are hugely handsome with a pair of jeans I thought and seemed to look sharp when wearing rugged looking shorts. The particular color of shoes I bought are the navy blue and black ones (called "dark grey/navy"), and they have a really rugged, smart look to them. The picture on Amazon is true to the color they appear when they showed up. I say that because I've ordered shoes before that looked one color online and showed up looking considerably different. Anyway, this company Lowa got it right with these. I've never heard of Lowa before, and bought them on blind hope and faith. I've was pleasantly surprised. Personally I think the price is worth it, but only if you're going to get lots of use out of them. Oh, and as for shipping speed, they did seem to arrive quite quickly after I placed the order (but I don't know off-hand where they were shipped from). The only thing I have a concern about is that I got them hugely dirty, and I don't know how to clean them. Hopefully that can be figured out given the type of materials these are made of (some of it looks to be suede, and much of it a leather, I think, without reading the specs online). Anyway, bottom line: I love them.

These are perfect. Not many things in life are perfect. I have a pair of older Lowa lightweight hikers which I've used and used. To replace them, I went to an outdoor store with a wide variety of brands. Tried them all on, etc. etc.. and on this open competition, ended up with another pair of Lowa! They just feel right to me, offer excellent support and are made of quality materials which last forever.
Hiking shoes are a lot more functional and better structured than regular shoes, so why not wear them all the time? The reason is that they often have garish designs which won't do in business meetings. These Lowa's are dignified in appearance; I can wear them to work. Finally, Lowa's are made in Slovakia, which I prefer to Asia - they seem to care more about details and workmanship.

The short story of why I purchased these shoes tells you a lot about my expectations for them.
I had recently purchased a pair of the Lowa Renegade II GTX Mid hiking boots (the mid version of this shoe). I had tried them on at Paragon Sports in Manhattan and purchased them on the spot. From that moment forward I wore the shoes at least 3-5 times per week. They required zero break-in time, were lightweight yet miraculously supportive, and the curving up of the toebox area meant that you never see the obnoxious creasing in the leather. Those mid hikers are my standard shoe for anytime it gets slightly cool, any hiking, urban trekking, inclement weather (including snow and sleet) etc. You can also sometimes get away with wearing them at work or out to a decent dinner (use your best judgment.. sometimes I am a little under-dressed for things, but as a research scientist people let me get away with this).
Now, spring is here and summer is around the corner. The mids became such a go-to item for me that I wanted the lo ones for the rest of the year. I don't think I've ever been that impressed by a shoe to buy two versions of the same thing.
I looked around for sales and pretty much nobody ever has a sale on these shoes. Until, one day as I perused my Amazon wish list, I saw that the shoe gods had smiled upon me and put the black ones on sale for $139.99. Done. If you see these shoes for anywhere in the $150 range or under, buy them, it is that simple.
I've now been wearing them a few days and they are every bit as perfect as the mid hikers. Same fantastic quality, still zero break-in time, still breathable, still look good with almost everything, still waterproof, and still likely to last me 3-5 years.
Notes on fit:
- toebox is smaller than the typical wide toebox on most hikers. This smaller profile gives a more snug sneaker-like fit. If you have wide feet (mine are normal), you might find it a bit tight
- Length is regular. I wear a size 10 sneaker, and the 10's in these were perfect
- No rubbing, blistering, or hot spots. Kind of remarkable.
- Good for balanced foot-strikers. I slightly supinate and these are great, moderate arch support for mild overpronators, removable insert for those who have orthodics.
- because it is Goretex, the tongue is attached at the sides, this is great because it avoids that sideways tongue slipping you get sometimes with sneakers
Creaks When Walking,
September 7, 2012
About the third time I wore them they began to creak with every step I took -- cheap insert for arch and padding. For the price, creaking is unacceptable; a different insert is required to prevent creaking: Dr. Scholls is one option. The styling of this shoe looks worse when you put them on compared to photos; very pedestrian; a warehouse work shoe. Otherwise, they are pretty comfortable for walking; leather lining gets a bit warm; gortex probably breaths better. Watch out for sellers who list gortex version but when you add it to your cart, the "LL" model, with leather lining appears.
As usual, the pluses have been on its waterproffing qualities, comfort, and high durability. This boot is however seen as rather too expensive, well, judging by the labor force on manufacturing this boot. Much is expected from a brand such as LOWA, and especially due to its price. The boot costs $200.00 according to the manufacturer, pricey indeed. The possibility of getting a slightly lower price at $199.95 is still possible, though, and that is not much. You can get the boots
here, and experience another quality product from LOWA.
Cheers.
