Men's Hikers Top 10 Best Sellers List

Okay, I believe that it would be convinient to list down here what would be the best selling hikers (hiking shoes, boots etc) up until now. This list is taken from Amazon.com and this is where we will get a good idea of what are the shoes people are buying. we start with men's hikers.

Here, the list is coupled with a pictures of the respective hikers, along with the averaged user ratings, respective price range, and the typical price on the market today. Selected customer review is also slotted in, with some thoughts and even advice along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent purchase September 14, 2012
By TheKoz
My first pair of merrell shoes. They are great right out of the box. Size is true. I bought them for outdoor use, but they look great in the office too. Very comfortable, and they slide right on like a broken in pair of your favorite slippers.

9.  adidas Outdoor AX1 Leather Hiking Shoe - Men's

Typical price: $95.00
Price range: $44.97 - $94.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Comfortable February 25, 2012
These shoes are very comfortable. I thought they would be boot like which was the reason for the purchase. I had bought some Adidas boots years back that have a lot of the characteristics of this shoe and I wanted another pair. The truth is that this is a very light running shoe. These shoes have made me an Adidas fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars athletic shoe with a hiker sole March 3, 2012
By J. Madden

I agree with the Mr. Shipman's review. These Adidas AX1 are more like a running shoe with lug sole. They have a firm heel not really cushioned like an "air" or "gel" shoe. I would say it is like a hiking shoe with the flexibility of an athletic shoe. Not necessarily what you would want for an all day hike with a pack but, tons of traction for light day hike or excursion. This might be the perfect shoe for an ultra-light hiker who normally hikes in running shoes.

Just got mine so I can't comment on durability yet.

They are sized small so you should order at least a 1/2 size up. I wear an 11 to 11 1/2 normally and needed a 12 in these. They are size similarly to Adidas Kanadia's which I see in stores locally.

5.0 out of 5 stars
 Comfortable shoes March 3, 2011
By F. R. Barrie

I've been walking in these shoes for six months now and find them to be very comfortable. New Balance is just about the only shoemaker out there that makes shoes wide enough for me and I've worn their running/cross training shoes for years. This is the first pair of walking shoes I've tried and I particularly like the extra room in the toes. My feet are very happy at the end of the day.

7.  Merrell Men's Moab Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots

Merrell
Average rating: 4.2 out of 5 stars
Typical price: $120.00
Price range: $94.95 - $120.00

Very interesting comment from the Dave serving in Afganistan as of 2011. Check this out. Almost a no brainer that this is a good pair. Click here for more details.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome April 18, 2011
By Dave
I am currently wearing these instead of my military combat boots in Afghanistan. They are very durable and feel like sneakers. They've held up very well in the mountains and other terrain I've been walking. They are waterproof as advertised (yes it does rain here).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great shoes April 19, 2011
By Roose Bolton
This is my second pair of the Moab's and third pair of Merrell's overall.
I love these hiking shoes. They are very comfortable and require little
break-in. They are also light and durable. My last pair lasted 4 years and
I wear them for everyday shoes as well as walking/hiking at least once
a week. I have noticed that they run a little small. I wear a size ten and
the 10.5's fit really well.

6.  Vibram Fivefingers Spyridon LS Mens Hiking Shoes

Vibram

3.0 out of 5 stars Good trail running shoes, but not the best option. May 27, 2012
By mike

I bought these specifically for trail running and they're good but not the best VFF option out there. I really like the sole, but I'm not a fan of the upper. I think they should ditch the laces and make a version of these that just have the straps. I've tried a few other VFF models for trail running and these are good but not the best. Here's a head to head comparison of both the soles and uppers of Spyridons vs. other models.

Soles:
The Spyridon sole has a very rough tred that makes it ideal for running in mud and loose dirt, provides a lot of traction.

Spyridon LS vs Komodosport: The Komodosport have a lightweight sole but offer very little traction in mud. I bought the Spyridon specifically for its treds and it really delivers in that department. They get excellent traction on a variety of surfaces. The spyridon also has much better rock protection. Winner: Spyridon.

Spyridon LS vs Treksport: These are really similar in terms of the amount of traction they afford, but the Spyridon sole is a lot more flexible than the Treksport. The Spyridon seems to do a slightly better job of rock protection, but again it's still pretty close. Winner: Spyridon.

Uppers:
The Spyridon upper only comes in the "LS" variety, meaning that it has laces instead of straps. I really wish there was a strappy option. The laces are short enough that you don't get much room to adjust them, and just below the laces there's a leather band that prevents the shoe from stretching properly if you have a wide forefoot.
Another drawback to the laces is that there's nothing stabilizing your heel. If you make the compromise I do of buying shoes that are the right width but a little bit too long, expect your feet to slide back and forth a little bit. Hello blisters.

The material composing the upper is also very thick and stays wet longer than I would care for.

Spyridon LS vs Komodosport: The Komodosport are still without a doubt the best upper on any pair of VFFs I've tried. They fit snugly and the dual straps are a killer. A shoe with the Spyridon sole and the Komodosport upper would be the ultimate trail running shoe. Winner: Komodosport.

Spyridon LS vs Komodosport LS: They're pretty similar from what i remember. I took my Komodosport LS back after one run, and traded them in for the regular Komodosport, because the upper sucked so bad. I share that same sentiment for the Spyridon LS. It's a tie.

Spyridon LS vs Treksport: The Treksport upper is light and breathable, dries quickly, but it lacks the dual straps of the Komodosport. Still miles better than the Spyridon.

So I'm going to say again, the Spyridon sole with a Komodosport upper would be the perfect trail running shoe. Get on that, Vibram.

Until then I'm sticking with the Komodosport except for rare circumstances where the Spyridon sole is necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice shoes! June 15, 2011
By Santa CruZin

I was initially a little concerned about the break-in requirements for these shoes, as I bought them immediately ahead of a trip that was going to involve a lot of walking. I figured if they showed up and were too stiff, I'd fall back on some old shoes for the trip. As it turned out, these shoes required no break-in at all. I put them on and soon forgot I was wearing new shoes. I took them on my trip and they served me well. Very comfortable, great traction and good looking. Highly recommended.

3.  Merrell Men's Chameleon 4 Stretch Hiking Shoes

Typical price: $125.00
Price range: $103.74 - $125.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Comfortable Hiking Shoes EVER!July 29, 2011
By
Ethan A. Winning "ewin64"
I bought these directly from Merrell (they had come out the day I called them re: Chameleon Gore-Tex), and they were $7 cheaper, but that's irrelevant. Without a doubt, these are the most comfortable hiking shoes I've ever owned. From the moment I slipped them on, they were as comfortable as loafers. My concern was that they wouldn't give enough support, but the next day I walked 8 miles on some pretty steep hills and rocky trails, and they were fantastic. They didn't rub, and the soles and tread were just right.

These are half the weight of the Chameleon3 Gore-Tex Merrells which I'm still using for more difficult national park trails, in part because the Gore-Tex is waterproof. (But since these are shoe height, step in a stream more than 5" deep, and forget about the waterproofing.) Still, it was amazing that anything this light could provide such comfort and support. The sizing was perfect, something that I've only been able to say once before (and I have 4 pair of Merrells and 2 of Eccos). I'm certain that there will be another pair of these in my future.

One recommendation (not a complaint): There could be loops on the tongues because the tongue tends to roll under when you first put the shoes on. However, before you tighten the laces, there's room enough to slip a finger under and smooth the tongue out. Takes another second or two.

Merrell
Typical Price: $90.00
Price range: $71.95 - $126.98

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding shoe, awesome support even for a flat footed person
By anon
Hands down the most comfortable shoe I own.. I wear them to work at times and I feel the support with every step.

I spent nearly two hours at a large shoe store picking the most comfortable shoe and this was my result.. I will never regret those two hours. I even ran in the store to test them and the other shoes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Untie your shoes when you take them off!October 5, 2012
By
Flores45

I have worn these shoes for about three months, and I can notice a difference in how my lower back feels. The shoes take a week or so to get used to, unless you wear hiking shoes a lot I imagine. I wear these around campus everyday, and out and about sometimes, and I have no major complaints about them, they feel comfortable and supportive. Additionally, they manage walking through water better than most shoes as far as getting soggy.

The only bad thing I have realized is that when I took them off and put them on again without untying them, the material inside the top of the lip on the back of the heel became pushed down, and I cannot fix it without cutting the shell open, which I will not do. If you are the type to tie your shoes once and only once, I would look at Merrell's slip on line.

1.  Merrell Men's Moab GORE-TEX® XCR® Lace-Up

Typical Price: $155.00
Price range: $68.95 - $157.48

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable, reasonable price April 7, 2009
By DigitalMan
I had owned a pair of Moab Ventilators before and loved them, just wore them out. So this time I bought the GoreTex version in prep for an upcoming trip where dampness is likely. These are just as comfortable as the regular ventilators and they come in wide widths, which are very hard to find. You can't get them in stores and even struggle to find the online. I highly recommend this shoe for moderate levels of hiking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof and wide! March 10, 2010
By Rick Stayner
I'm very happy with these shoes. They keep my feet dry during walks through wet snow and slush. I bought them for early morning walks when the grasss is wet with dew and I think they will work great. I bought them in 12 wide and these shoes are actually wide enough for me to wear a thick pair of socks. Haven't had them long enough to rate the wear of the sole, but so far, so good.

5.0 out of 5 stars after 2 years....September 18, 2012
By
edward

these shoes are falling apart... riddled with holes... my feet are wet...they have no grip because the soles are totally worn out and starting to peel off....... after 2 years of year'round abuse. 2 years! these are undoubtably the best shoes i've ever owned. I'm sad to see them go. after trail running every season in them, countless hikes, wearing them everyday to work, and putting my feet up at the bar as I order a drink....these shoes have done it all.... and survived. I typically burn through shoes within 7 months. Not these ones (and not their sibling..the mid-tops..but thats for another time). These shoes are my favorite. nice and grippy, waterproof, and breathable enough for the murky new england july and august. Enjoy! I'm off to find another pair.

As a disclaimer, I am affiliated with Gore for product testing of Gore-tex products for the purpose of product review and recommendation. I do receive items from Gore for these purposes.

And that's it i suppose. Merrell made it big in the list, occupying the top three. Number 7 is of particular interest due to it being used on proven hard terrain in Afghanistan, under mostly combat conditions. Hope this list helps in your search for the best hiking shoes for your personal preferences.
